State parks see busy July 4 weekend Mostly warm and sunny days this Fourth of July weekend kept South Dakotas state parks and recreation areas busy throughout the state.
Game, Fish and Parks managers reported that campgrounds were mostly full, and many campers chose to take an extended holiday, arriving a day or two early and staying several days after the holiday weekend. Parks saw a high number of boaters and picnickers and good attendance at park events.
A large number of people enjoyed the state parks this holiday weekend, said Emilie Miller, information specialist with the Division of Parks and Recreation. Parks saw the traditional large amount of campers, and a great number of park visitors came out to spend just a day or two in the park. Families spent the weekend visiting with each other, using the recreational equipment and facilities, and attending the many activities held in the parks.
