Hitting close to Old

Glory night for W.E.L.L.

Our hosts, the Mollies Follies (or half of the team, anyway) had an Independence Day theme for W.E.L.L.s July 5. Pin prizes placed on the back 9 were three chances, on three separate holes, to hit closest to an American flag that was placed somewhere on the hole. The winners of the prizes were Sarah Taggart on #10, Tammy Baisden on #17 and Peggy Donnelly on #18. Our hosts also awarded the Quackson to Jennifer Steele. Out on the course it was clear that, after the enforced hiatus from play on the back 9, the golfers had regained their skills in negotiating these holes. Both the low gross and the low net went to the Plate family golfers. Karrie Plate had the low gross score with a 38, while Ruby Plate had the low net score with a blistering 28 (43-15). In pursuit of these scores each contributed one to the eight birdies recorded this night. Karrie birdied #14. Ruby birdied #18. Playing with Ruby was her teammate LeeAnn Safar who also birdied #18 along with #11. Meanwhile Karries teammate, Jenny Chandler, birdied two holes as well #15 and #18. Rounding out the birdies were Pam Ward, with a birdie on #14 and Susan Oberle who birdied #17. Birthday boy leads seniors After an early morning shower a rainbow appeared and 33 seniors charged out of the club house for a fun game on the front nine. July 12, Howard Connors birthday, featured a 60-foot birdie putt on hole #6. Good scores were brought in. Leading with an under par 34 was the team of Mo Marcotte, Don Baer and Tim OConnor. Two teams followed with 37s. Turk Pilker, Alan Clem and Berwyn Svoboda edged out Pete Berglund, Lloyd Helseth, Howard Connors and Quentin Olson. Vern Holter, Maurice Erickson and Ardell Hatch came in with a 38 score. Harlan Schott, Ken Beringer, Dick Munkvold and Guy Button brought in a 39 and the team of Elmer Mount, Pat Boyle and Cleland Cook won a prize at 40. Shot of the day and birthday cake honored Howard Connors, one of our senior seniors. Eight birdies were scored on this fine morning. Plan to come out next week for another wonderful day. Mens League

weekly report

On July 7, with slight breezes and temps in the high 80s, the sixth week of league play was contested on the front nine at The Bluffs. The course is tournament ready and the scores appear to demonstrate the difficulty to register competitive results during the day.

Results for the week in the American division had best scores for Vote for Pedro with 19 points, while Bank of the West Insurance and PIK both had 16.

Lowest individual scratch scores were a disappointing 40 reported for Gary Prosser, Chad Lavin, Brian Steele and Kevin Limrick.

There were only seven birdies in the division reported for the day.

The National division had one team with a very high point score: Americlean 20.5 which moved them into first place. West Side Inn maintained their place in the standings with a score of 15. Several players had scratch scores 40 and under, with a 34 (net 32) for Nick Hovden who birdied #2 and #9. Don Harris 35 (net 32). Scott Hansen and Mike Wettstein were at 1 over par 37, and 38 was claimed by Rick Haught. Tom Schaack & Scott Isaak carded 40s.
