Vermillion Ice come back with double header wins by Jim Prosser The U-16 Vermillion Ice softball team moved its season record to 22 wins, 4 losses as they beat Yankton Embroidery Works 7-6 and 9-1 in a double header contest at armory field in Vermillion, June 30.

Game #1 was a real squeaker as Vermillion had to score three runs in the last at bat to secure the win for starting pitcher Ariel Hofman. By giving up six runs on three hits while walking eight, and two team errors, she kept the hometown fans kinda sittin� on the edge of their seats. Her teammates contributed 10 hits.

Two players scored two runs each. Hofman reached first base twice on 2 for 2 batting with 2 runs and 2 RBIs; Annie Roche � 2 for 3, 2 runs, 1 rbi; Alicia Brown � 2 for 3, 2 RBIs; Katie Kashas � 1 for 1, 1 R; Mary Ann Bierle and Anna Isaacson � 1 run each. Calle Sorensen � 1 for 2, 1 run.

In game two, Alicia Brown pitched an easy five-hit, one-run, five innings. With only one team error, the five walks she issued were not a factor to the defense since the offense contributed eight hits for nine runs.

Ice scoring stats were: Roche � 2 for 3, 3 runs; Hofman, Brown, and Sorensen � one run, each; Kinsey Weydert � 1 for 3, 1 run, 1 rbi; Brittni Stewart � 1 for 2, 1 run, 1 rbi; Kashas � 1 for 2, 1 rbi; and Isaacson � 2 for 2, 1 run.
