Yankton Wizards too much for Vermillion U-16 Ice by Jim Prosser The U-16 Vermillion Ice softball team had a short timed double header as they lost to Yankton Wizards twice in Yankton July 12.

The first game was an 8-1 five-inning defeat as Ariel Hofman struggled through a five-hit, five-error, let down which was too much to overcome. Brittni Stewart scored the lone Ice run with a homer.

It was followed by a more respectable sounding 8-3 loss where Alicia Brown pitched a five hitter, but gave up four earned runs as her teammates made four more errors.

Line score: Ice � 3 runs, 4 hits, 4 errors, 5 lob; Wizards � 8 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors, 5 lob.

The offense for Ice was a 1 for 3, 1-run showing by Kinsey Weydert; a single for Brown with a run; and a Kaili Johnson score after a single. Mary Anne Bierle was credited with an rbi.

The team�s regular season record was 22-4, and after the league tournament, the final tally was 24 wins, 6 losses.
