August club meeting held; Yard of the Month chosen This month�s meeting of the Wakonda Community Club was well attended despite the fact that many are often on vacation in August.
There were a number of items of interest to the community on the agenda, including Cornstock in the Park (held Aug. 6) and the blood drive (held Aug. 8).
The club voted to award John McCarty with the Yard of the Month for August. John�s home is located at the corner of 2nd and Kansas. Last month�s winner was the Weidrich home on Slant St.
School activities were discussed. School opens on Aug. 22. The first Wakonda home football game will be Oct.14 and that will be our tailgate supper night. Volleyball and cross country schedules were also discussed.
The impressive Eckert memorial in front of the elementary addition was noted and appreciation was expressed.
Lyn Nielsen of the Tri County News was in attendance and requested news articles from Wakonda for their paper. Sheriff Andy Howe and several deputies were in attendance for the noon meeting.
There was a request which the club honored for a donation for the fireworks scheduled for the evening of Cornstock. Homecoming is set for Sept. 23, with the game this year in Irene.
