Bison-tennial Dutch Oven Cook-off Aug. 27-28 The third annual Great Plains Bison-tennial Dutch Oven Cook-off will be held Aug. 27-28.
The event will be held at the Pierson Ranch Recreation Area, four miles west of Yankton at 43349 SD Highway 52.
General event admission is $2 per person, and is free for children 12 and under.
Cook-off competition registration is $5 on Saturday and $15 on Sunday.
There will be a vendor area both days. Camping is also available, featuring cabins, primitive camping, electrical and non-electrical sites and one wheelchair accessible site.

On Friday, Aug. 26, the Great Plains Bison-Tail Gate Party will be held from noon until 1 a.m. at Latitudes at the marina on Lewis and Clark Lake. This event is sponsored by Boulevard Beer and Latitudes.
Cook-off schedules for Saturday and Sunday include:
Saturday, Aug. 27
�Family Day.��Bring your Dutch oven, and be prepared to compete for the �Best Family Dutch Oven Recipe� (this is a one-pot format).�Cook your favorite family recipe in a Dutch oven.�The competition begins at 2 p.m., with judging at 4 p.m.�
Two- or three-person teams are allowed, with one or two adults and one youth. The youngest member will be crowned �Young Dutch Oven Chef of the Year.�
Sunday Aug. 28
�3-Pot World Championship Qualifier Dutch Oven Cook-off,� which is IDOS sanctioned.�This competition begins at 10 a.m. with judging at 1 p.m. for desserts, 2:30 p.m. for breads and 4 p.m. for main entrees.
Winners of this cook-off qualify to compete for cash, prizes and awards at the World�s Championship Dutch Oven Cook-off, which is held annually in Utah.
The first annual Great Plains Bison-tennial Dutch Oven Cook-off was celebrated in 2003 on the banks of the Missouri River in Yankton.�� In 2004, the cook-off was chosen by the Food Channel Network�s All-American Festivals as a feature program.
