Jamie Parish named BB coach of the year By Jim Prosser Jamie Parish was recognized by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association as the 2004-2005 South Dakota Girls Basketball Coach of the year for Region 6 on Thursday, April 14, at the South Dakota High School Activities Association Summer Coaching Clinic in Aberdeen.
This award is voted on by the basketball coaches of Region 6 which includes all of the schools in Southeastern South Dakota. Parish is the second girls basketball coach from Vermillion to receive this award.
The 2005 season was the third time in school history that the Tanager girls have qualified for the state basketball tournament. They ended the season with a third place finish at the 2005 State A Tournament losing only to the eventual champions from Hamlin.
I appreciate the girls dedication and hard work; although I was recognized the acclaim really belongs to our girls. You dont often hear of a coach being honored for a team that doesnt play hard and have some success. I feel quite privileged and hope to continue to be a part of building more successes at Vermillion High School in the future.
