Tanager golfers open season at West Central Invitational By Jim Prosser With a short pre-season practice time, and facing a group of serious contenders for state honors, the VHS boys' golf team entered the West Central Invitational at Central Valley GC in Hartford on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

The 18-hole tournament involved nearly 160 high school golfers on 19 varsity and JV teams from diverse locations and classes in South Dakota.

Final top 10 team standings were: 1. Milbank (320), 2.West Central (322), 3.Canton (327), 4. Aberdeen Roncalli (328), 5. Vermillion (333), 6. Aberdeen Central (333), 7. Madison (341); 8. Bon Homme (345); 9. Chamberlain (348); 10. Dakota Valley (361).

Scores for Vermillion individuals were: Aaron Steele � 82 (17th), Jordan Boots � 82 (18th), Alex Schaack � 84 (27th), Broc Gauer � 85 (34th) and Mikal Ustad � 85 (35th).

The JV team was shorthanded and didn�t vie for a spot in the standings. However, Individual scores were: Eric Ustad � 87, Dan Davies � 96, and Cole Andre � 100.
