United Way to kick off 2006 campaign United Way of Vermillion will be celebrating its 50th year as a non-profit organization in 2006.

In June of 1956 I.D. Weeks, Robert E. Kolarich, W.M. Barton, Louise L. Majewsky, Marian F. Green, J.G. Farmer and Phillips B. Crew saw fit to form a corporation for the sole purpose to ?mobilize and stimulate the interest and participation of the City of Vermillion and vicinity exclusively in behalf of worthy charitable, educational, health and welfare organizations.

In June of 2005 the Board of Directors adopted the mission statement Giving together to build a stronger community.

After 50 years the mission and purpose remains unchanged. The United Way of Vermillion is about people helping people. When you contribute to the United Way of Vermillion, you are investing in your community and making a positive impact in the lives of so many.

On Sept. 7, the 2006 fund-raising campaign, The Taste of Vermillion, kicks off at the Vermillion High School Commons from 5:30 to 7 p.m., featuring complimentary samplings of wonderful food items from our local restaurants and caterers.
