Barb Ryman plays Gayville Hall Saturday The Minneapolis singer-songwriter Barb Ryman returns to Gayville Hall on Saturday, Sept. 17, for an 8 p.m. concert. Gayville Hall musical hosts John and Susan McNeill of Springfield will also perform.
Although Ryman didn't start her professional music career until age 40, she has made a name for herself as a folk singer and songwriter. She was nominated four times for songwriter of the year and best folk recording by the Minnesota Music Academy and has played at clubs, concert halls, and coffeehouses across the country.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune called her 1995 CD, Lay Me Open, "a heart on sleeve triumph." Three other CDs, including Falling Down to Heaven, also garnered praise.
Ryman is beginning a month-long concert, coffeehouse, and club tour across South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Minnesota.
Gayville Hall is an alcohol-free venue that presents two-hour music shows of popular, jazz, folk, gospel and country music as performed by local, regional and touring national musicians.
Gayville Hall is at 502 Washington Street in Gayville. Admission is $10 at the door or $12.50 for reserved seating. Call 605-267-2859.
