The event was held in the Vermillion bank's parking lot. Local business representatives demonstrated their desk jockeying skills by negotiating a rectangular "track," outlined by tires and straw bales.
When the dust had settled _ after two preliminary heats and a championship race Randy Rasmussen of Rasmussen Motors was declared the winner as his chair was first to glide across the finish line.
Tuesday's event wasn't designed solely to offer grown-ups a chance to child-like fun. The race raised money for the Vermillion/Clay County EMS.
Businesses participating in the races, and donating funds to the local EMS providers, included Sioux Valley Vermillion Hospital, Herren-Schempp Building Supply, Candy Bouquet/Doo Wop Shake Shop, Hy-Vee, Clay Rural Water System, Rasmussen Motors, Choice Pharmacy, First Dakota National Bank and Fox Pizza/Silver Dollar.
Other donors are Deb's Hallmark, Vermillion Credit Union, Bank of the West, Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, CorTrust Bank, Pamida, Wells Fargo Bank, Chickering Tax and Accounting, Premier Real Estate, Jones' Food Store, Craig Thompson Law Office and Vermillion EMS.
