Public invited to Lewis & Clark meeting
The Sergeant Floyd Tri-State Chapter of the Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation will meet in Vermillion Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m.
Members and guests will gather at the W.H. Over Museum and then move to the Spirit Mound trailhead, where Jody Moats, naturalist from the Adams Nature Center, will lead an interpretive hike to the summit of the mound.
Refreshments will be served after the hike. Then the group will reassemble at the overlook above the Newcastle-Vermillion Bridge, where Jim Peterson of Vermillion will lead a discussion of the Missouri River now and at the time of Lewis & Clark.
Newcomers and guests are welcome to the free meeting. The regional Lewis & Clark chapter is one of 40 affiliated with the national organization and has active members from Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. Most of its meetings are in Sioux City, but visits to important sites on the Lewis & Clark trail on or near the Missouri River occasionally prompt field trips like the upcoming one planned in Vermillion.
