Council seeks artists for touring roster Artists have until Oct. 1, to apply for a spot in the South Dakota Arts Council's (SDAC) new Touring Arts Roster, according to Jim Hagen, secretary, Department of Tourism and State Development.
"As part of the state's 2010 Initiative, we are working hard to increase artists in the schools and in the communities. This roster is an excellent tool to help us promote our many talented artists," Hagen said.
The Touring Arts program consists of performing and visual artists whose fees to nonprofit organizations may be underwritten through grants from the SDAC to the artist. The roster includes artists in dance, literature, music, theatre, traditional arts, and visual arts.
Artists are chosen on a competitive basis. Selected artists receive a two-year endorsement and a grant that becomes available July 1, 2006 and continues through June 30, 2008.
Application forms and guidelines are included in the Guide to Grants publication available from SDAC or online at www.artscouncil.s d.gov. Grant panels will review applications and select roster members prior to December. All grants and endorsements are contingent upon funding levels from the State of South Dakota and the National Endowment for the Arts.
"This program helps grow local economies, and since many of the roster artists are South Dakotans, it showcases the state's talent as well," according to Dennis Holub, SDAC executive director.
