Hurricane-displaced jazz trio to play at USD
The University of South Dakota will play host to "Doreen's Jazz New Orleans," a Dixieland jazz trio displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The jazz band will perform in concert throughout the area; including Sunday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. in the university's Farber Hall.

One of USD's own jazz musicians, music education major and trumpeter, Justin Kisor, will join Doreen's Jazz New Orleans for the performance. The jazz band has performed across the country and around the world for numerous audiences, including four U.S. presidents. The group has appeared on CNN, VH1, PBS and the Travel Channel.

The trio is led by clarinetist Doreen Ketchens, who has been called "the Female Louis Armstrong." Ketchens is joined by her husband, Lawrence, who plays the tuba and drummer Dwayne Nelson.

The Ketchens were able to leave New Orleans with their 3-year-old daughter before the hurricane hit. The Ketchens lost virtually everything except for their musical instruments and a few possessions. They are still trying to locate some of their band members.

This concert is open to the public. A goodwill contribution to the band will be requested of audience members. To see more information about Doreen's Jazz New Orleans, visit their Website at www.doreensjazz.com.
