Irene/Wakonda Eagles lose to Centerville Tornadoes The Irene/Wakonda Eagles kicked off the 2005 season by hosting the Centerville Tornadoes in Irene. Centerville won 42-6.
The game, a Tri-Valley Conference match up, started with the Eagles kicking off to the Tornadoes. The Eagle defense held and forced Centerville to punt on fourth down. The Tornadoes quickly showed their defensive strength and completely shut down the Eagle offense.
Centerville earned their first points when Reece Evans tackled Josh Nielsen in the endzone for a safety. Evans scored two more touchdowns in the first quarter for a 16-0 lead. Evans tacked on 6 more points in the second quarter to give the Tornadoes a comfortable 22-0 halftime lead.
Nielson came out firing on the first possession of the second half, driving the Eagles down field. Nielson capped the drive with a 7-yard pass to Mitch Hessman. That was, however, all of the scoring for the Eagles. Centerville scored three more TDs; one in the third quarter and two in the final stanza.
The Eagles travel to Gregory this Friday.
