The speaker for the evening, Lion Tom Stogsdill, vice president for development at the USD Foundation, was introduced by President Christopherson. A handout providing information on Campaign South Dakota was given to members present and reviewed by Stogsdill. The original campaign goal was to raise $60,000,000 by the end of 2006 but this goal has already been surpassed.
The funds are to be used for scholarships, faculty, and facilities. The purpose of the campaign is to raise academic merit so that USD will be acknowledged as an outstanding small public university. Stogsdill reviewed in some detail the present construction status of the Medical Science Building and the future plans for the USD/Slagle Performing Arts Center and the School of Business Building.
