Roughriders eke out 20-14 win over JV team

The Tanagers outscored the home team 6-3 in the first half. Unfortunately, the Roughriders scored a TD in the third quarter and out-pointed the Tanagers 10-8 in the 4th to claim the win.

Scoring for Vermillion were Reid Meierkort on a 14-yard QB keeper, and Paul Hammond on a 60-yard pass from Meierkort. Jason Friedel scored the 2-point conversion.

Offensively, passing was the most effective for the Tanagers. Luke Heine led the rushers with 22 yards. Hammond caught three passes totaling 97 yards.

Leading the beleaguered defense was Luke Heine who recorded 12 tackles; Tom Mollet � 10 Ts, and QB sack; Harrison Hawley � 11 Ts; Ryan Husby � 8 Ts; and Chris Taylor � 7 Ts. Nine other defenders registered three or four tackles, and six others each had one or two Ts in the defensive struggle.

The JV record is 1-1.
