State Division of Insurance returns funds Nearly $3 million was returned to South Dakota consumers during fiscal year 2005 through the South Dakota Division of Insurance's consumer assistance program, Insurance Division Director Merle Scheiber announced today.
According to Scheiber, the $2,957,416.36 returned to citizens was primarily in the form of claim payments and refunds on premiums. Over 1,000 consumers filed written requests for assistance during the past fiscal year, which ended June 30. Scheiber says the consumer assistance program is an important part of the divisions consumer protection efforts.
Providing critical consumer protection and assisting consumers with their insurance problems has long been the mission of the Division of Insurance, and we will continue to emphasize that in the future, Scheiber said. Its important for South Dakotans to know that if they have a question or problem regarding their insurance coverage or needs, the division is willing and able to assist them.
