"We know that this tragedy has created a lot of uncertainty and heartache for many students," said Regents President Harvey C. Jewett. "I've seen estimates that as many as 150,000 college students at roughly 30 campuses were impacted in the Gulf Coast area."
Last Friday, the regents also agreed to extend the fall admissions deadline until Sept. 23 for college students impacted by the hurricane and flooding.
That action allowed both South Dakota residents and out-of-state students who were enrolled at universities in New Orleans and other impacted Gulf Coast areas to begin their studies this fall at any of the six South Dakota public universities.
