USD Theatre seeks local talent The University of South Dakota Department of Theatre, in collaboration with the Department of Music, will soon hold auditions for the enchanting Broadway musical, The Secret Garden. Youth, ages 9 to 14, will audition for the major roles of Mary and Colin, Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon, and Sunday, Sept. 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Colton Recital Hall in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. Boys who audition should have unchanged voices.
Adults will audition Sunday, Oct. 2 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 3 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre in the Center for Fine Arts. Adults who audition are asked to reserve a specific audition time by signing up on the University Theatre callboard located in the east hallway of the fine arts building.
Those who audition are asked to bring sheet music for their prepared piece; an accompanist will be provided. Audition materials will be available for checkout from the University Theatre office, room 184A in the Center for the Fine Arts.
Rehearsals will begin in early October with performances scheduled for Nov. 30 � Dec. 4.
The Secret Garden takes us into the world of Mary Lennox, an 11-year-old orphan. Flashbacks, dream sequences, a magic locked garden, and beautiful music written for Broadway help to make The Secret Garden a spellbinding tale.
