VHS named 'distinguished school' The South Dakota Department of Education released their 2005 school report card and Vermillion High School received recognition for being a "Distinguished High School." Vermillion High School received recognition for meeting criteria established by the No Child Left Behind Act.
To be awarded the distinguished school title, the school must meet adequate yearly progress for two consecutive years in both reading and math, decrease the achievement gap for one or more subgroups by 10 percent over a two-year period, or have at least 80 percent of the students in the "All Student" group meet the state's proficient and advanced levels of student performance in both reading and math.
