VHS volleyball drops Tri-Valley match By Jim Prosser The VHS varsity volleyball team suffered a 1 � 3 loss in a four game match with scores 25-27, 28-26, 18-25 and 22-25, on Thursday Sept. 8 in the VHS gym.
The freshmen opened with a 2 � 1 victory (25-13, 20-25, 15-8).
"The girls looked great, playing very well together as a team," said coach Leah Bakke. "They are definitely better defensively and showing a lot of hustle."
She recognized the following girls for their performances: Brianna Brinkman and Becca Hawley � five ace serves each; Brinkman � four kills and Kayla Gale � three Ks; also , Gale had seven assists; Angie Christensen � four digs, two blocks; and Dana Hannahs � four Ds. Their record is 2 � 2 .
In the "B" match, nothing went right in the 0-2 loss (15 � 25, 22 � 25). Coach Lori Jerred, chose to recognize the following players in the match: Digs � Kristina Blythe , nine; Stacy Bottolfson � six Ks and Brittany Bye � five Ks, three Bs; Rachel Odens had 10 sv points, two aces; and Raychel Lorenz had eight set assists. Their record is 2 � 2.
Head Coach Lenni Billberg was disappointed with the varsity's performance. "We simply could not put the finishing touches for scoring a victory. There were huge momentum swings in three of the four games, giving us a chance to win, but we couldn't close out the match. Krista Froke and Brittney Babb gave strong performances at the net, and Alicia Brown had a career high 24 digs."
In the match, Brown registered 19 attacks, 24 digs, 13 points on serve, 28 passes, and three aces. Paige Prosser had 13 passes, seven digs, 16 sv pts, and seven aces. Michelle Olson had 20 A, six K, 15 POS, four B, and 13 D. Kinsey Weydert had 29 set assists, and five digs. Arial Hofman contributed 13 P, six D, 14 POS, two aces; Brittney Babb recorded two P, 29 A, nine K, two B; Krista Froke had two P, 34 A, 15 K, three B, five D, 12 sv pts.
With the loss, the team had the current season 3 � 2 record.
