Wakonda Community Club faces a busy fall schedule With the resumpion of school and related activities a number of events were on the agenda for the Wakonda Community Club meeting, held Sept. 7 at the Senior Citizens Center.
The Katrina disaster was an item of concern for the members and they voted to send $250 to the Red Cross for relief.
Homecoming is set for Friday, Sept. 23. The Wakonda parade is scheduled to begin at noon. The Senior Citizens will be serving pie and ice cream following the parade. The theme for this years parade is "Candy." The club will have a float. In the football game the Irene/Wakonda Eagles will face the Tea Titans.
Yard of the month
The Yard of the month for September was awarded to Ruben and Kathy Doering. Their home is located at 207 Slant Street.
Cross country recognition
The Club voted to give special recognition to Tony Skonhovd for being named cross country coach of the year. Recognition also goes to his team for their efforts as well as to Robert Gregoire for his accomplishments.
The tailgate supper will again be held on Oct. 14. This is Wakonda's first home football game played at Wakonda. It will be parents' night and the Eagles will be playing Viborg.
Heritage Manor news
In news from Heritage Manor an excellent report was heard relative to the recent Ice Cream Social sponsored by the Community Health Foundation and held at the Manor. The group was also reminded that the Manor Fall Festival is scheduled for Oct. 23.
