Wilcox named SDSU distinguished alumnus
Jim C. Wilcox, of Sioux Falls, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award for Outstanding Service to Home Community.

Wilcox, a graduate of Wakonda Public School, earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from SDSU in 1976 and his master's degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN., in 1986. He has been a strong leader and supporter of economic development for Sioux Falls.

Working for Xcel Energy as the government and regulatory affairs manager, Wilcox donates a lot of his spare time to the Sioux Falls Development Foundation. As chairman of the 18-member board, Wilcox works to attract new businesses to the region. He was instrumental in the development of the South Dakota Business Technology Center.

Wilcox was a member of the South Dakota 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees. In that capacity, he played a vital role in helping the foundation launch Character Counts!, a statewide character education program. The initiative currently reaches 85,000 youth and has a presence in 66 percent of the school districts.

In addition, Wilcox continues to serve on numerous boards and task forces such as Gov. Rounds' Energy Task Force, Western Governor's Energy Advisory Committee, North American Electric Reliability Council Performance Subcommittee and the Sioux Valley Hospital Board of Directors.

In his spare time, Wilcox develops science kits and delivers them to children through 4-H Clubs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and elementary schools.

Wilcox and his wife, Doniese, have three daughters.
