Girls’ tennis team ends season at state tourney

The Tanagers finished their season by competing in the Girls State Tournament in Sioux Falls, Oct. 6-8. The following is a resum� of the nine flights with Vermillion participants at the 2005 meet.

Singles: Flight 1 � Liz Day lost to Ashley Rubin (BV), 0-6, 1-6; Lost to Amanda Roth (Spearfish), 3-10.

Flight 2 � Lindsay Morecraft lost to Emily Langland (Brookings) 0-6, 0-6; Lost to Megan McDougall (Sturgis), 1-10

Flight 3 � Dru Daniels lost to Hailey Gunderson (Aberdeen), 2-6, 2-6; Lost to Miranda Fees (St. TM), 10-11 (4-7).

Flight 4 � Shannon Skillman def. Shantil Byrne (Sturgis), 6-0, 7-5; Lost to Anna Jones (Watertown), 1-6, 2-6.

Flight 5 � Steph Cowman lost to Nashay Bercier (AbCen), 2-6, 1-6; Lost to Jenna Nagael (RCC), 0-10.

Flight 6 � Alicia Hesla lost to Cassie Raczynski (RCC), 2-6, 2-6; Def. Katie Heggem (Spearfish), 10-3; Lost to Marie Holtzmann (Yank), 2-10.

Doubles: Flight 1-Day/Morecraft lost to Bakke/Saylor (Watertown) 0-6, 1-6; Lost to Rockne/Rockne (Yank), 2-10.

Flight 2 � Daniels/Skillman lost to Gunderson/Martel (AbR) 0-6, 1-6; Lost to Mortenson/Byrne (Sturgis), 6-10.

Flight 3 � Cowman/Hesla lost to Taggart/Haugen (BV), 2 6, 4-6; Lost to Sanborn/Gullicson 1(SF), 1-10.
