Gospel singing convention is Oct. 30

The Southeastern South Dakota Gospel Singing Convention will hold their quarterly songfest at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Point on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.

The church is located on the east end of Main Street and the afternoon is free and open to the public.

The singing convention meets four to five times a year at various churches and town halls across the southeastern part of the state for an afternoon of singing and good fellowship.

The convention is a nondenominational effort to preserve the heritage of gospel singing in four-part harmony. There is a set of gospel hymnals with over 1,000 hymns and Southern Gospel type songs. Singing is done in a style reminiscent of the old time singing conventions or as seen of the popular Gaither programs aired on P.B.S.
