Memorial services were held for Herbert L. De Beer Monday, Oct. 10, 2005 at Victory Lutheran church in Mesa, AZ. Pastor Floyd Anderson officiated. Interment followed at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, AZ.
Herb was born Aug. 15, 1926 to Leendert and Emma Meeter De Beer in Corsica. He graduated from Corsica High School. He served in the Navy during World War II and graduated from The University of South Dakota. In 1951, he married Leota Ostlund of Vermillion. They had two sons, Gary and Larry.
He worked in the family hardware and appliance store in Corsica. In 1954, he started his career as an insurance adjustor in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen, and continued as an adjustor until he retired in 1987 in Rapid City. After retirement, he and Leota traveled around the country and decided to make Arizona their home.
Herb passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2005 at Banner Garden Hospice House in Mesa, AZ after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Leota, and two sons, Gary De Beer of Mesa, AZ, and Larry De Beer with his wife Dana and granddaughter Taylor, of Yuba City, CA; four nieces; two nephews; and a sister-in-law, Arlene DeVany and her husband John DeVany.
He was very devoted to his family and will be missed by all.
