VLP Poetry Slam set for Oct. 27
The VLP Poetry Slam, a competition for poets, will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., at the Coffee Shop Gallery, 24 W. Main Street, downtown Vermillion. The featured writer will be J.V. Brummels from Nebraska. Slam poets should bring at least three poems. Prizes will be awarded.

This event is free and open to the general public. This month, the poetry slam is one of the kick-off events for the John R. Milton Writers' Conference. See www.usd.edu/ engl/m ilton for details.

Brummels' poetry has been published widely in literary journals and little magazines. He was born and raised on Nebraska farms and ranches and educated at the University of Nebraska and Syracuse University. As a member of the English faculty, he has directed the Plains Writers Series at Wayne State College.
