Everyone is welcome to participate, including the general public and University of South Dakota students, faculty, and staff.
Is there a catch? Yes � you must write the story in the designated room within three hours, at the specified time. Also, a certain theme, image, or idea (which will not be announced until the contest begins) must figure prominently in your story. Computers will be available for your use.
The contest will be held in the McKusick Technology Center (Arts and Sciences building, southeast corner of the main university of South Dakota campus in Vermillion), in room #101, from 12 to 3 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 22. Contestants should arrive no later than 11:45 a.m.
A panel of judges consisting of faculty and students from The University of South Dakota will read the stories and select the winners. The first- and second-place winners will be announced at the VLP Poetry Slam on Thursday, Oct.27, at 7 p.m. (Coffee Shop Gallery, 24 W. Main St.). The announcement will also be made on the VLP radio show, Project Radio, on KAOR, 91.1 FM, and on the VLP Web site at www.usd.edu/~projlit.
Registration and contest fees are�$15 (after Oct. 18; bring registration on day of contest).
USD Faculty and Staff Late Registration Fee � $10 (after Oct. 18; bring registration on day of contest).
USD Students Early registration – $2 (postmarked by Oct. 18); USD Students Late Registration Fee � $5 (after Oct. 18; bring registration on day of contest).
To register for the contest, print, fill out, and either mail/bring to the contest the registration form available at http://www.usd.edu/~projlit/storycontest.cfm. University students must show current student ID at the door the day of the contest. Registration fees cannot be refunded.
