Garden club members make decorations

Vermillion Garden Club members met Thursday evening, Nov. 17 to make Christmas tree decorations for the garden club Christmas tree in the Festival of Trees, Dec. 4, at the W.H. Over Museum. Their theme will be "Holding on to Fall," consisting of gorgeous leaves, milkweed pods, chestnuts, pine cones, globe thistle pods, various colors of twigs, and large acorns. Plans were discussed for 2005 Christmas party.

While our president was making trips from her car into the library, a thief or thieves stole a $25 tray of cheese from her car. We hope the hungry he or she or they enjoyed the cheese as much as we would have!

Ladies Auxiliary names essay winners

The regular meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Clay Post #3061 was held Tuesday evening, Nov. 15, with President Delores Gregg presiding. Roll call of officers was taken and recorded. The meeting opened with the opening prayer and Pledge to the Flag.

Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Correspondence included General Orders #4, Nancys Best of the Best, District 1 Council Minutes, National Family Volunteer Day to be held on Nov. 19, Thank You note from Royal C. Johnson Hospital, St. Agnes fifth-graders for Donna Schafer speaking to them on Buddy Poppy.

Winners in the Patriot Pen Essay contest were Grade 6: 1st Place � Elizabeth Szymonski, daughter of Jason and DeAnn Szymonski; 2nd Place � Bethany Hansen, daughter of Jack and Karen Hansen. Both students are from Vermillion Middle School.

Grade 7: 1st Place � Nicole Schroeder, daughter of Mary Schroeder; 2nd Place � Greg Peterson, son of Donny and Carol Peterson.

Grade 8: 1st Place � Casey Hessman, son of Doug and Ruth Hessman; 2nd Place � Justin Polley, son of Rodney and Cheryl Polley. All students are from Wakonda School.

Winners in the Voice of Democracy contest were: 1st Place � Ashley Anderson, 2nd Place � Jessica Peterson, 3rd Place� Sandra Guether. All students are from Wakonda School.

Reports were given on our sales by our 22 volunteers on Buddy Poppy, sympathy card mailed, membership, hospice and hospital equipment on loan. Motion M/S/C to give another $100 to Operation Uplink and $125 to each of the Your South Dakota Veterans Hospitals and Yankton Human Services Center and W.H. Over Museum in appreciation for having the Veterans Day Program. Meeting closed to reopen on Dec. 20, and it will include a Christmas party.
