Local Extension secretary honored for outstanding work
The South Dakota chapter of an honor society of Extension professionals has honored two Extension secretaries for outstanding work.

Colleen Speakman, secretary of the Clay County Extension office, and Cheryl Cross, secretary of the Meade County Extension office, each won the State Meritorious Support Service Secretarial Award.

Cross was described by her Extension colleagues as a self-motivated, organized, and proactive, one who strives to do her best in all that she does. She was also praised for her work as a mentor to others.

Speakman's Extension co-workers praised her for her professional, polite and courteous manner, her impeccable organizational skills, and her success in streamlining the office's daily operations to make the office run more smoothly.

Epsilon Sigma Phi, dedicated to fostering excellence in the Extension system, made the awards Oct. 19 at the annual conference of the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service in Brookings.
