Howard Bremer, 93, of Vermillion, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005 at Sioux Valley Vermillion Care Center.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Vermillion, with the Rev. Brook McBride officiating. Burial was in BluffView Cemetery, Vermillion.
Visitation was one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Howard Bremer was born March 1, 1912 in Luden, ND to William J. and Gertrude Lange Bremer. He graduated from Parkston High School.
Mr. Bremer married Blanche Dubrall on Sept. 17, 1948 in Vermillion. He moved to the Vermillion area in 1937 from Parkston. He worked as farmer, retiring in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche, Vermillion; a daughter, Janice Bremer, Vermillion; a brother, Robert (Viola) Bremer, of Vermillion; four grandchildren, Rhonda, Mike, Pat and Scott; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carol Robison; a son, Brian Bremer; and a sister, Alice Jopling.
Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home, Vermillion, was in charge of arrangements.
Irene Mae Weingartner
Irene Mae Weingartner, 74, Sioux City, IA, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005 at a Sioux City assisted living apartment.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Wakonda. The Rev. Joseph T. Forcelle officiated. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery, Wakonda.
Visitation was from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Larkin Northside Funeral Home, Sioux City, IA. The family was present from 6 to 8 p.m. A parish vigil service was held at 7 p.m. The visitation resumed at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
Irene Mae Weingartner was born Sept. 3, 1931 on the W.A. Dwyer homestead near Wakonda. The fourth child of John H. and Ella F. (Dwyer) Weingartner, Irene attended rural Pleasant Valley School for eight years, and graduated from Wakonda High School in 1949.
She enrolled in Mount Marty College in Yankton, receiving her teaching certificate in 1951. She taught elementary school for 40 years in Tripp and Brookings, Sioux City, IA, Minneapolis and Edina, MN, retiring in 1992. Irene received her BSED in 1960 and MA in 1970 from The University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
After retirement, Irene continued to reside in Edina, MN, where she enjoyed travel, cultural and social events until relocating to Sioux City in 2003 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2001. She had been a resident of Bickford Cottage I and II in Sioux City since April 2003.
Irene was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, most recently at Blessed Sacrament in Sioux City. She was instrumental in establishing a perpetual maintenance fund for the Saint Patrick's cemetery in Wakonda. She has maintained membership in the Retired Teachers Association of Minnesota and the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.
Irene was always available for a helping hand to those in need and maintained life friendships with young and old and always enjoyed visiting and good humor.
Pallbearers were James Morrison, Patrick Morrison, Richie Morrison, Tom Larsen, Barry Peterson and Charles Denzin.
A memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice of Siouxland or St. Patrick Catholic Church in Wakonda.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary C. Weingartner of Sioux City, and Lorraine E. McClain and her husband James of Clovis, NM; two brothers, John J. and his wife Myrna L. of Coverdale, CA, Russell W. and his wife, Sue of Helena, MT; 14 nieces and nephews and their families, numerous cousins and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
