The purpose of this meeting is to help parents understand and complete the process of applying for federal dollars in order to help finance their child's post-secondary education in college or technical school.
Peggy Kuck, from the Education Assistance Corporation in Aberdeen, and Julie Pier, director of financial aid at The University of South Dakota, will be on hand to address parents' questions and walk them through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Because both federal loans and federal grants require the FAFSA, all seniors who plan to enter a college or technical institute in the fall of 2006 should submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after Jan. 1, 2006. However, it is not too early for parents of underclassmen to develop a plan for meeting the escalating costs of higher education.
