Every year the Wakonda community honors those who have fought to preserve our rights and way of life by putting on a program and a meal.
This year, the Wakonda High School band accompanied the gathering in singing the Star Spangled Banner, while a small ensemble from the high school choir sang Land of Our Dreams.
Speakers at the event were Ray Peterson and Jessica Peterson, who was the Girls State delegate, which is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. After the program, the meal commenced. On the menu was ham, twice-baked potatoes, and many long conversations.
Miss Dana White, the student council advisor, remarked, "The day was a complete success. This is the least we can do for the Veterans and Auxiliary of the community, and we are really thankful for their service. I even had veterans who thanked us and the community for remembering them on Veteran's Day."
