Scholten's sculpture invites the viewer to explore their own perceptions of the place of materials they encounter in daily life. Her work investigates the formal and sociological borders of what makes an art object.� Scholten creates art that passes from the meditative to the surreal, posing questions of thought provoking transformation.
Scholten is a native of Vermillion. She received her bachelor of arts degree in film studies from Yale University, studied film at New York University, and has worked as a filmmaker and editor in South Dakota and New York.
"Robots and Ether" is on view in the Main Gallery of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts at USD until Dec. 8 with a free public reception on Friday Dec. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Main Gallery is open for viewing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 1-5 p.m. on weekends.
