? Volunteer of the Year � The United Way of Vermillion is now accepting applications for the Volunteer of the Year Award. Applications can be picked up at the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce and Development Company. Applications must be submitted before Dec. 15.

? USD Theatre Presents The Secret Garden � This Tony Award-winning musical features some of the most beautiful music ever written for Broadway. Showing Nov. 30-Dec 3 at 8 p.m. and on Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre. For ticket reservations call 677-5400.

? Tree Lighting � Please join us in downtown Vermillion the evening of Friday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves will lead a parade down Main Street to flip the switch to light up Vermillion's Community Christmas Tree. Come listen to the carols and enjoy hot chocolate courtesy of the Market Street Caf�.

? Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Vermillion Public Library � After the lighting of the tree kids can enjoy crafts, activities, and stories with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Vermillion Public Library on Friday, Dec. 2 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Parents and shoppers � downtown merchants are extending their hours for your holiday shopping convenience!

? Holiday Open Houses � Please stop by Never Never Land and Nook 'n Cranny to check out their holiday open houses Dec 2 and 3. They will be open until 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 and will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.

? Holiday Open House � Come join Valiant Vineyards Winery from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 for their holiday open house.

? Free Movie � Saturday, Dec. 3. Vermillion Theater/ Hollywood Video will be showing Christmas with the Kranks free for the kids. Shows start at 1 and 3 p.m., giving parents time to do some holiday shopping!

? W.H. Over Museum is inviting the public to join them for A Prairie Christmas and Holiday Open House at the museum from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4. The afternoon will have good food, good crafts, lots of activities for the kids, Santa Claus, beautiful trees, and the best bake sale in the state! Also "Starburst" the clown will be entertaining the children in the Discovery Room. For more information call 677-5228.

? Midwest Youth Basketball Tournaments �Vermillion will be hosting the Midwest Youth Boys' & Girls' Basketball Tournaments at the DakotaDome again this year. This event brings many people to our community and we're looking forward to showcasing all that Vermillion has to offer! We need volunteers to help support the event and we are hoping that you will consider sharing some of your time to assist us! The boys' tournament will be Dec. 2 and 3 the girls' tournament will be Dec. 9 and 10. If you can spare some time to volunteer please contact our office as soon as possible at 624-5571.

? City Council meeting � Monday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Neuharth Center. City Council agendas are available at www.cityofvermillion.com. City Council meetings are held on the first and third Monday of every month. You can view the council meetings on Cable Channel 3.

? State Chamber Pre-Legislative Session Meeting � David Owen, president of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will be hosting a Pre-Legislative Session Meeting, presenting information and insight on the upcoming legislative session. This event will be held at Little Italy's in Vermillion on Wednesday, Dec. 7 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Please join us for this informative session! ? Vermillion Chamber & Development Company Events Calendar � Our Web site now has an events calendar. The public can add events to the calendar and view what is going on in the community. Go to www.vermillionchamber.com, then go to the left hand side of the screen and click on the "Events" button, and then "Community Calendar" button.
