Eagles top Tornadoes 58-42 December 9

The Irene-Wakonda Eagles boys' basketball team soared to a victory against the Centerville Tornadoes on Friday, Dec. 9, kicking off the season with a good win over a tough opponent.

Junior Adam Polley led the Eagles with 18 points and nine rebounds. Sophomores Josh Nielsen and Eric Anderson both racked up 13 points each against a tough Tornado defense led by Chris Wellenstein with 11 rebounds and 18 points.

The first quarter of the game saw a close game between the two teams, but the Eagles started to pull away in the second quarter, and led the game 27-17 at the half.

Tyler Knudson, Rob Gregiore, and Mitch Hessman also contributed to the victory. The Eagles will have a string of tough games ahead of them, including Viborg, Bon Homme and Hurley.
