Residents can go to farm show to check for unclaimed cash
South Dakota State Treasurer Vern Larson will again be manning the state's Unclaimed Property booth at the Dakota Farm Show in Vermillion Jan. 4-6, 2006.

The state is currently holding $543,745 belonging to 4,681 residents in Clay, Lincoln, Turner, Union and Yankton counties.

Larson emphasized that his office offers the unclaimed property outreach at the farm show and other shows and fairs around the state as a "free service."

"After all, the $23,928,979 we are holding belongs to the 87,256 people on our unclaimed property list; they shouldn't have to pay to get their own money back," he said.

If you are unable to attend the farm show and wish to see if your name is on the unclaimed property list, you can check out the state treasurer's Web site at www.sdtreasurer.com or contact the department by e-mail at unclaimed.property@state.
