Vermillion had led by 13 at halftime.
The win gave Vermillion a record of 1-1 while Alcester-Hudson fell to 0-1.
Stacy Bottolfson scored six points and made five steals. Margaret Mueller made five assists and four steals.
The Tanagers led 6-4 after the opening period, went into the locker room up 18-5 at halftime, and then led 26-15 after the third period.
Vermillion won the game from the field, making only 2 of 4 charity tosses compared with 12 of 26 for Alcester-Hudson.
"We improved over our first game, but we still need to learn how to react to pressure and finish with successful free throw shooting," said coach Lenni Billberg.
Vermillion sank 1 of 7 three-point attempts. The Tanagers connected on 12 of 38 field goal attempts, while Alcester-Hudson was 4 of 10 from the field. Alcester-Hudson made 0 of 0 three-pointers.
The close win had several contributors to the cause.
"Off the bench heroics can be credited to Brianna Brinkman, who scored two 3-pointers, and Brittni Stewart, who made six rebounds," coach Billberg said.
