Three players, junior Vanessa Yanez (Wagner), freshman Bridget Yoerger (Hinton, IA) and sophomore Kristi Tighe (Homer, NE) scored 15 points for USD, while senior Meghan Woster (Sioux Falls) finished with a season-high 15 assists, one short of the school-record (16, Katie Dailey; Morningside, 1/6/85).
For the second consecutive game, the Coyotes found themselves down, 7-0, but battled back and took a double-digit lead, 41-31, at 1:16 on a jumper by sophomore Ashley Robinette (South Sioux City, NE).
WPU had a double-digit lead of its own in the first half, when Carrie Parker made a lay-up at 10:15, to give the Lady Statesmen a 20-9 lead.
USD, who had season-low six turnovers, increased its lead to 14 at halftime, 45-31, when sophomore Janielle Bryan (Bellevue, NE) scored with 26 seconds left in the half.
In the second half, the Coyotes began with a trey by sophomore Ashley Bjorkman (Vermillion) at 19:39 and never led by fewer than 20 points after Yoerger made a lay-up at the 7:48 mark.
For the game, USD shot 45.6 percent (31-of-68) from the field and made 36.4 percent (12-of-33) of its three-point attempts. At the foul line, the Coyotes made 13-of-19 for 68.5 percent
Senior Brittany Bessert (Fort Collins, CO) and Bjorkman finished with 15 and 12 points, respectively, for the Coyotes.
William Penn, who outrebounded USD, 48-35, shot 36.7 percent (22-of-60) from the field, including 6-of-18 (33.3 percent) from three-point range. WPU made 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) free throw attempts in the game.
Latasha Pendleton and Maria Romano led the Lady Statesmen with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Pendleton also grabbed nine rebounds to lead all players.
