South Dakota hit 19-of-65 shots from the field for 29.2 percent, including 11-of-34 from three-point range. USD made 11-of-16 shots from the foul line.
The Coyotes were led by Ashley Bjorkman, a sophomore from Vermillion, who dropped in 15 points, grabbed three rebounds and had two assists. Ashley Robinette, a sophomore from South Sioux City, NE, also hit double figures with 13 points. She also had four rebounds and hit a trio of three-pointers (four attempts).
In addition, freshman Bridget Yoerger of Hinton, IA, had eight points and eight rebounds while sophomore Jenni Flynn of South Sioux City, NE, added eight points and four rebounds.
Northern State was led by sophomore center Noelle Hall, who had 21 points. Ali Chmielewski recorded her first career double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the home-standing Wolves.
The loss by USD snapped a five-game winning streak over NSU. USD leads the overall series, 11-10.
A three pointer by Bjorkman and a jumper by Yoerger provided USD with a 5-2 lead at the 19:13 mark of the first half. Later, Vanessa Yanez hit a three-pointer to give the Coyotes a 10-9 lead at the 14:29 mark. NSU went on a 15-5 run to take a 31-21 lead at the 6:40 mark after Hall converted a lay-up. The Coyotes rallied and drew within 36-34 on a lay-up by Yoerger at the 1:20 mark of the first half.
NSU took control of the game with a 14-2 run in the opening 4:39 (15:21) of the second half to grab a 50-36 advantage. A three-point play by Robinette pulled USD within 50-41 at the 14:31 mark of the second half. After that, NSU built a double digit lead and took its biggest lead of the game at 80-60 with 12 seconds to play.
