VHS students honored

Matthew Sand and Jennie Bellis were honored as the Vermillion High School Students of the Month for October. These two seniors will be awarded a $100 scholarship from First Bank & Trust-Vermillion for their excellent work ethic and leadership.

According to his faculty endorsement, Sand "is friendly and polite and works well on his own as a self-starter. In addition, he is a person others like to work with because of his quick wit and intellect." He wants to become an English teacher after college.

His activities include the National Honor Society, football, band, Natural Helpers, German Club, and the Wildfire Contemporary Choir. His parents are Tom and Lauren Sand.

Bellis' college plans are to attend The University of South Dakota majoring in elementary education with a minor in speech pathology. Her endorsement indicated that she "is one of the most mature students I have encountered in my teaching career."

Along with her participation in band, choir, and Suicide Awareness, she has been a Girls State delegate, Senior Class vice president, National Honor Society president, and Student Council officer. Her parents are Tim and Teri Bellis.
