YCC raises funds for young singers

While Hurricane Katrina was still raging, the Yankton Children's Choir (YCC) decided it wanted to do something for the New Orleans Children's Chorus, whose music director, Cheryl Dupont, had been helpful to the local organization. The Yankton Children's Choir thus instigated a fund drive among regional children's choirs, resulting in a collection of more than $1,000.

Each participating choir sent an amount of its own choosing, raised in various ways, and with their own messages to the members, staff, and friends of the New Orleans Children's Chorus.

The YCC contribution of $200 represented gifts of all sizes from singers and their

families, staff, board members, and from the choir itself.

Other choirs and their contributions included the Nebraska Children's Chorus ($754), the Sioux Falls Girls Chorale ($80), and the Siouxland Youth Chorus, Sioux City, IA ($50).

The most recent update on the New Orleans Children's Chorus Web site indicates that directors are still trying to find all members of their several choirs, even as they

begin rehearsals in new sites.
