Yankton's new indoor ice rink, the Alcoa Arena on the Pine Acres 4-H Grounds, 901 Whiting Drive, opened Dec. 9 with the USD Club Hockey team taking on the Dordt College squad.

On Jan. 14, USD will play South Dakota State University in a club hockey match starting at 6 p.m.

A rink dedication ceremony, recognizing all of the contributors to this 100 percent privately funded project, will be held at 4:30 p.m. prior to the match. Patti Brooks, widow of 1980 Olympic coach Herb Brooks, who grew up in Yankton, has also been invited to the event. Patti and the Brooks Foundation has contributed to the rink project.

Open skating sessions for the public continue in January and February on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Alcoa Arena. Costs are $2 for students, $3 for adults with $2 skate rentals.
