Feb. 13 is USD/Vermillion Day in Pierre with two different receptions in the Capital City sponsored by local organizations.
The city of Vermillion has chartered a bus for the day. The bus will leave at 6 a.m. and return after the USD Alumni event, leaving Pierre about 8 p.m. and getting back to Vermillion around midnight. The cost is $25 per person for the round trip on the bus, and is open to the public
Reservations can be made with Joan Tolsma or City Manager John Prescott at City Hall by calling 677-7050. We need to know by noon on Monday, Jan. 30.
Events in Pierre include:
- Lunch in the Capitol Rotunda with legislators from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. � Featuring USD student-athletes including members of the 2005 Coyote football and cross country teams. The lunch is hosted by the USD Alumni Association and the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce and Development Company.
- 2 to 5 p.m. � Watch the House and Senate in session at the Capitol. Tours of Pierre attractions also available.
- 6 to 8 p.m. � Social at the Ramkota Hotel for alumni and friends. The event will feature student-athletes and coaches. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Hosted by the USD Alumni Association with music provided by USD musicians.
Feb. 15 is a planning and brainstorming event for Vermillion's Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) coming up in 2009. This event will be held at the Austin-Whittemore House at 15 Austin Avenue beginning at 6:30 p.m.
I ask for your attendance with ideas and input on how we should proceed with planning for this milestone in our history, or just to listen and find out what is being discussed. We will serve light snacks and this will be more of a social atmosphere to discuss ideas. Chairperson Gloria Barnes and I would appreciate your attendance and involvement.
