A more narrowed approach would be taken when selecting who should be contacted in a child custody proceeding if House Bill 1051 is passed into law.
The Bill was introduced at the request of the Department of Social Services. It would revise certain provisions regarding who exactly gets the notice for a child custody hearing. This change is subject to the Indian Child Welfare Act.
If passed this bill will be helpful in the identity of who the right contact is, said State Rep. Tom Van Norman, D-Eagle Butte.
The Bill passed, 69-0, by the House Jan 18. The Bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
