Ashley Robinette, a sophomore from South Sioux City, NE, kept the Coyotes close to UND by scoring 19 points, including 4-of-9 three-point baskets. Senior Meghan Woster of Sioux Falls added 14 points, two assists and two blocked shots. Freshman Bridget Yoerger of Hinton, IA, scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.
North Dakota was led by reserve forward Kelsey Maffin, who had 21 points and five rebounds. She hit 7-of-11 shots from the field. Kristi Boese added 15 points and nine rebounds while Carissa Jahner scored 11 points.
UND sits atop of the NCC standings with a 3-0 mark, while the Coyotes fell to 0-2 in league play.
On the night, the Coyotes hit 22-of-56 shots from the field for 39.3 percent and made 8-of-26 three-point baskets for 31 percent. USD was 12-of-16 from the free throw line for 75 percent.
UND, which scored just six points in the first 10 minutes of the game, shot 40.6 percent on 26-of-64 shooting. They connected on 9-of-21 shots from three-point range and made 12-of-18 free throws for 66.7 percent.
After UND scoring the first basket of the game, USD went on a 7-0 run, capped by Woster's three-point field goal at the 15:29 mark. USD led, 10-4, at the 13:17 mark on a three-point field goal by sophomore Ashley Bjorkman of Vermillion.
The Coyotes built their largest lead at 14-6 when Yoerger hit a jumper at the 8:39 mark of the first half. UND did not take its first lead until 3:35 remained in the half when Boese hit a three-point field goal for a 21-19 lead. A jumper by Danye Guinn of UND provided the visitors with a 28-19 lead at the 1:29 mark. Robinette hit a three-pointer with 30 seconds left in the half to draw USD with 30-24. Boese then scored just before the halftime horn as UND led, 32-24, at the break.
UND continued to build its lead, moving in front 44-31 at the 16:14 mark. However, the Coyotes kept after UND, drawing to within, 48-40, at the 12:44 mark following a jumper by Yoerger. A three-pointer by Robinette helped USD close within 51-46 with 10:01 to play in the game. Two foul shots by Robinette at the 8:37 mark brought USD within, 53-48.
USD trailed just, 56-50, with 7:29 left to go when Woster hit a pair of free throws. UND built the lead to 70-60 at the 1:38 mark but USD scored on its next two possessions to draw within six points (70-64). UND scored the final three points of the game to close out the scoring.
