Parkston upsets Tanagers 29-26 Jan. 6
The Vermillion Tanagers ended up on the wrong side of a fourth-quarter rally and were upset by the Parkston Trojans 29-26 in boys' basketball Jan. 6 at Parkston.

Vermillion JV had led by two after the third quarter.

The loss gave Vermillion JV a record of 2-3 while Parkston moved to 4-1.


"We played poorly tonight," said Vermillion JV coach Jon Ruevers. "We need to learn from this game that we need to play from start to finish hard."

Vermillion lost the game from the free throw line, making 4 of 12 charity tosses compared with 13 of 22 for Parkston.

The Tanagers fell behind 6-3 at the end of the first period, led 15-14 after the second period, and then held a lead of 18-16 going into the final period.

Vermillion connected on 0 of 5 three-point tries. The Tanagers hit 11 of 38 from the field, while Parkston was 6 of 39 from the field. Parkston hit 4 of 10 three-point attempts.
