Prentis Park to benefit from National Park Service grant

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth announced Jan. 12 that the National Park Service has awarded a Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant to the city of Vermillion for Prentis Park.

The grant, in the amount of $20,000, is to assist in the construction of a new group picnic shelter with tables and grills at Prentis Park.

"This grant is an investment in the future of Vermillion, and I am pleased that it will benefit such a worthy project," Herseth said. "Like all South Dakotans who love the outdoors, Vermillion families will enjoy the use of this picnic facility for years to come."

The LWCF program provides matching grants to states and local governments for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities. The program is intended to create and maintain a nationwide legacy of high quality recreation areas and facilities and to stimulate non-federal investments in the protection and maintenance of recreation resources across the United States.
