The Council is composed of academic scholars as well as the general public to create a diverse board that strives to encourage public humanities dialogue.
The position will begin July 1, 2006, and terms run for three years. The Council meets three times a year to set policy, review grant applications and shape program goals. Members serve without pay, but are reimbursed for travel expenses.

Nominations should be sent by Feb. 10 to SDHC, Box 7050, University Station, Brookings, 57007. Self-nominations are also accepted.
The Council is an independent, non-profit corporation supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the South Dakota Humanities Foundation, corporate sponsors, individuals and other sources. Its mission is to support and promote public programming and provide grant funding for programs in traditional humanities disciplines.
